Down under ist weit weg und es gibt wenig Unterhaltungsmöglichkeiten, noch nicht einmal Fernsehen. Die attraktive und unerschrockene Blondine Valerie ist Australiens beste Unterwasserjägerin und ihr Mann Ron Taylor ist Weltmeister im Speerfischen. Über das Leben im Meer weiss man nicht allzuviel, ausser dass die Anzahl der Fische unerschöpflich zu sein scheint. Ron und Valerie Taylor gelingt es als ersten, weisse Haie unter Wasser zu filmen. Als Steven Spielberg die Aufnahmen sieht, engagierte er die beiden für seinen Blockbuster "Der Weisse Hai".
Die Taylors werden zu Hollywood`s führenden Unterwasserspezialisten. Auch im Alter von 77 Jahren tauchen die Taylors noch immer, heute allerdings sind sie schockiert über den schlechten Zustand der Meere und die starke Dezimierung mariner Lebensformen.

In the 1950s, shortly after the second World War, Australia was still "down under", a very distant place. Young people had few leisure options, aside from a day´s fishing or surfing at the beach. Australia`s top spear fishermen were handsome Ron Taylor and his attractive wife Valerie always parading her trademark pink bikini. Very little was known about marine life at the time, and the couple`s ability to film sharks and other remarkable marine creatures in their natural habitat soon earned them a reputation.
Their stunning underwater footage of white sharks attracted the attention of Steven Spielberg, and the Taylors eventually became Hollywood`s leading specialists in underwater photography.Even today, at the age of 77, the Taylors continue to dive the remotest corners of the blue planet. However, they find themselves apalled by the dire state of marine life and feel strongly that the protection of the oceans should be given far higher priority.
